Reservations

Note: reservations are currently on pause due to pandemic pivot. The info below applies once we reinstate indoor evening service.

Reservations are available for our daily dinner service by visiting outerlandssf.com/reserve and clicking on link to Resy. Customers can also reserve directly through Resy at resy.com, but please direct queries to our site first. If a customer would prefer to email they can contact the host at hello@outerlandssf.com. Emails are also returned between 4pm and 6pm daily. Our phone number is not use, reservations cannot be made through phone call or voicemail.


Gift Tender

Gift Cards
Swipe-able gift cards are available for purchase in any increment at the register. Please ask your manager to assist with setting up and processing these transactions. Write the gift amount on the printed folder, mount the card in the folder and place it in one of the gray envelopes provided (please do not seal the envelope). By swiping an active card, you can also check customer balances or add funds. 

Paper Certificates
Though we no longer sell paper gift certificates, these will continue to circulate, and can be redeemed in place of cash by selecting custom tender on the POS. Follow these steps:

  • Cross out and place redeemed certificates in the register to be included in the drop for that shift.

  • If a customer uses only a portion of the gift amount, cross out the previous value, write in the remaining value, write "Issued as Gift Card," initial, and include in the drop for that shift. A manager will need to issue the remaining amount to the customer as a gift card.

  • Make a note of the adjusted value, certificate number, and name– this info should be included in the manager notes for the shift.

  • If you are concerned about the authenticity of a certificate, please alert a manager. All certificates should have a trackable serial number.


General Inquiries

Customer Inquiries
If you are unsure of the answer to a guest's question, never say "I don't know," but never offer an answer unless you are certain it is correct. Instead, please cordially let the guest know that you will find out and promptly enlist a manager's assistance. If a guest would like to contact Riley or our administration, please direct them to the appropriate public email, hello@outerlandssf.com. All other Outerlands email addresses are for internal use only.

Complaints
All guest complaints, no matter how small, should be immediately communicated to a manager. Our prompt attention to a complaint assures the guest that our staff cares about the experience. If a guest wishes to communicate general suggestions or additional feedback, please encourage them to contact hello@outerlandssf.com, and let them know that we appreciate their ideas. Please review the Steps of Service for more on how to handle guest complaints.

Press
Press inquiries, photography or video requests, etc. should be directed to the press form at outerlandssf.com/contact, or to hello@outerlandssf.com. Please direct any fact-checking calls to the email address. Never offer interviews or answer press questions outside of general inquiries without permission from Riley. Please note that in order to protect our guests' privacy and the quality of the dining experience, we do not allow photography or video (aside from guest iPhones or small camera use within their party) without prior permission from owners.

Solicitations
Please direct phone or in-person solicitations for goods or services to hello@outerlandssf.com. Even if you think we would benefit from a particular service, please do not extend our interest to salespeople. Never share managerial or owner contact info, and please avoid offering to connect the salesperson with Riley (even if one of them is present). Instead, politely thank the salesperson for their interest in partnering with us, and let them know that someone will be in touch if their product or service seems like a good fit. When in doubt, or if a salesperson is overly persistent, please ask a manager for assistance.

Job Queries
If asked whether we are hiring, please invite candidates to email a query letter and resume to hello@outerlandssf.com. Please let the person know that a manager will contact them if it seems like a potential fit.

Donations
At Outerlands, it's important to us to give back to our community. The restaurant donates funds and food items to numerous school programs, environmental groups, and fundraising events. Due to the very high volume of requests we receive, we prioritize our donation budget toward local causes relating to sustainability and/or the Outer Sunset neighborhood. Please direct individuals or organizations inquiring about donations to hello@outerlandssf.com. If you receive printed information regarding a fundraising event or other donation request, please give it to Riley. If an individual asks permission to post or distribute flyers, cards or literature, please politely explain that although we do not allow these items to be displayed in the restaurant, we are happy to take some info and help spread the word about their service, cause, or event by word of mouth.


Deliveries

Alert a manager as soon as you notice a delivery has arrived so that the order can be checked in. If a manager is not available, please follow these steps and sign:

  • Delivery invoice line items should each be matched to the product at hand. If something is missing, damaged, or incorrect, let the driver know that it needs to be returned and/or credited.

  • Do not leave deliveries in aisles or doorways, and assist with stocking whenever possible within your department.

  • Save all invoices and/or delivery receipts and place in the appropriate folder by the walk-in.

  • If questions regarding account management or payment arise and no manager is present, please contact Admin.

  • All miscellaneous packages and general mail should be given to Admin as soon as possible.
